Windows 8.1 Update 2 will Add Start Menu Back (Rumors, Features, Price)
Windows 8.1 Update 2 will Add Start Menu Back
Windows 8.1 Update 2 (or Windows 8.2 as some people are calling it) -- the mysterious follow-on to the ill-fated Update 1 is set to launch soon. What features Windows users expect for? And is it free for update? Read on.
New Features: The Start Menu Strikes back
At the developer's build conference in April, Microsoft announced that the start menu was making a comeback in the coming updates. Now a leaked screenshot reveals a hybrid start menu much similar to the one showed at the keynote in April. Therefore, Windows 8.1 Update 2 (we like that name better) will properly feature a return of the sorely-missed Start menu.
It is called hybrid version because along with the traditional start menu, there will also be floating titles, like the ones found on the metro UI. You can pin stuffs onto this menu.
Price:
This update will be available for free to Windows 8.1 Update 1 users. For Windows users with earlier/older versions of Windows on their systems, they can get Windows 8.1 Update 2 at a relatively low-price. Users who purchase PC's with Windows 8.1 Update 2 may also receive a discount (and maybe even free) when upgrading to Windows 9. Other than those changes, there's little to indicate what other significant features might be in store for the next version of Windows.
Release Date:
Windows 8.1 Update 2 is set to launch in August/September of this year, and Windows 9 is said to be launching next year in 2015.
Do you think the classic 'Start Menu' will make it to Windows 8.1 Update 2? Feel free to leave a comment.
