How to Fix Wi-Fi Doesn’t Work After Upgrade to Windows 10
"I upgraded my computer from Win7 Ultimate Win10 Prothis morning. All seems fine in terms of the OS, but I have no internet access. I know the router was OK as my other devices are fine."
There are three ways you can do to solve the Wi-Fi doesn’t work problems. Without third party driver management software, you can just change the computer settings and excludemalfunctions one by one, your computer will normally connect to wireless network.
Method 1: Enable WLAN in Control Panel
After upgrade to Windows 10, some laptop may disable the WLAN connection in Control Panel, you will find the WLAN logo in taskbar is gray with a red “X”.
- Step 1: Move your cursor to the left bottom of the desktop, right click and choose “Control Panel”.
- Step 2: Choose“View network status and tasks” in “Network and Internet”, click “Change adapter settings”in left panel. You will see all the network connections.
- Step 3: Right click on the gray WLAN logo, choose Enable, the WLAN logo will change to blue and you can choose available wireless network to connect.
Method 2: Disable the Computer to Turn Off Wireless Network Drive to Save Power.
Some peoples may open the automatically sleep to save power when they left the laptop for a period of time. So the computer will turn off the WLAN connection when sleep, you should manually connect the WLAN after wake it up. It’s very inconvenience for users.
In “Change adapter settings” (refer to Step 1and 2 in Method 1), choose the WLAN logo and click “Properties”, click the “Configuration” button, the wireless network driver setup window will popup. Choose “Power Management” tab, uncheck the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. Next time your computer come into the sleep status, the WLAN will not disconnect.
Method 3: Reinstall the Wireless Network Driver in Device Manager
For the compatibility of Windows 10, some drivers will not compatible in Windows 10 even you can normally install it in previous Windows 7/8/8.1. So you can reinstall the incompatible wireless network driver to solve this problem.
- Step 1: Open the official website in a computer could normally use, find the diver which compatible for Windows 10.
- Step 2: Open “Device Manager” in Control Panel, unfold the “Network Adapter”, and right click your wireless driver, click “Uninstall ” and wait for complete.
- Step 3:Copy the driver file to your laptop, double click it and you will come to the process to install the driver. Generally you should restart your computer and the new diver will work fine.
